Sallam Research Lab

We explore thermofluids at the intersection of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and combustion — from the breakup of liquid jets in supersonic crossflow to solar-driven desalination.

The lab

Facilities

We have a subsonic wind tunnel and a shock tube to generate the wind speeds we need for testing liquid atomization, a combustion test rig for studying combustion noise, and a membrane distillation test rig for water desalination research.

Diagnostics

Measurement tools

We investigate thermo-fluid problems at macro and micro scales using particle image velocimetry (PIV), digital holography, and high-speed imaging.
